The OPAL group in the School of Marine & Atmospheric Science at Stony Brook University is opening in Fall 2027, led by Arianna Krinos Quinn. Our research centers on phytoplankton and other protistan ecology using a combination of molecular approaches, ecosystem models, and culture experiments. We focus on eukaryotic microbial resilience to environmental change, and do much of our work in vulnerable coastal ecosystems.
